What Are the Qualities of Sports and Sport Sponsors?

Sports are physical games and competitions. These satisfy the human need to competition, physical activity and play. All sports are competitive. This is the main difference between recreational, leisure or play. Sports involve physical exertion or stress; they also involve a balancing act between the mind and body and the spirit. For the athlete, winning requires not only mental but also physical and technical skills.

There are many ways to identify and determine the nature of sport. In general, there are two types of sports: contact sports; team sports; and individual sports. Contact sports such as contact boxing, softball, basketball, tennis and football; require only the participant to be in good physical condition and the equipment to participate. Team sports such as ice hockey, football, rugby and lacrosse; involve a number of people participating in a controlled contest or activity with the aim of scoring points. In addition to these, there are many other types of mind sports that have become popular, such as bingo, gambling, chess, speed reading, and kenpo. Each type of mind game has developed its own set of rules, objectives and advantages and disadvantages, and a variety of equipment.

Organising sports does not mean that all competitions and events need to be fair. The organising of sporting events involves a degree of skill, innovation and tact. To organise fair competition in sports, there are a number of requirements that the governing body, or association, need to look into and consider. The most basic of these is the provision of proper transport and accommodation for the athletes and participants. Other requirements, the governing body will look into include providing entertainment for the spectators and an adequate protective and health care provision for the participants.
