Types of Sports
Sports are organized competitive athletic activities and physical games. These fill the gap between leisure and recreation, sport and health. Sports are universal. Everyone loves to have a good time and enjoy the rush and adventure of a good game. Sports can be practiced by anyone, at any age, race or fitness level.
Sports are categorized into several types: contact sports, fitness, gymnastics, badminton, swimming, fencing, golf and table tennis. Each sport requires its own specific skills and style of play. Badminton is a sport that involves the use of both hands, while badminton doubles the effort of badminton and serves as an exciting and dynamic competitor in the singles game. Sports that are physical in nature require skill, endurance, and muscular strength, while sports which require finesse, skill and agility involve mental and emotional skills and involve motor coordination.
While there are many types of sports, they are separated into two categories: sport and recreation. Sports recreation can be a solitary act, where the athlete needs to spend the whole day exercising and eating only. Sport, on the other hand, may involve team activities where the sport itself requires physical fitness and strength. A good example is swimming where an athlete will not only master the swimming stroke but also learn how to perform a variety of body movements to complete a set of tasks, from starting off fast to stopping and going back to a relaxed pace.
